According to media reports, Premier League giants Arsenal have picked Spaniard Mikel Arteta as their first choice to replace Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal wants Arteta at Emirates

The Daily Mail is claiming that Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis has picked former midfielder Mikel Arteta as the leading contender to become Arsenal’s new manager after Arsene Wenger ended his 22-year spell at The Emirates Stadium this summer.

As per the same report, the Gunners are keen to name a younger head coach with a new approach and the former Everton midfielder is now the leading candidate.

The same report states that both Mikel Arteta and former Gunners captain Patrick Vieira are the two key candidates to replace Wenger at the Emirates Stadium if Arsenal do indeed move to name a younger coach.

Arsenal want a younger manager

Gazidis is believed to be keen on naming a younger coach and sees Mikel Arteta as the ideal coach to take over at the club.

The Gunners will be looking to name a head coach capable of leading Arsenal to an English Premier League title challenge, with the North Londoners having failed to challenge favourably for the title recently.

Arsenal have not lifted the English topflight title since their famous unbeaten success in the 2003/04 season.
