Arsenal are heavily linked with a move for AC Milan and Colombia defender Cristian Zapata, this is according to report.
Arsenal’s biggest problem for last season was not scoring goals but their inability to nullify the attack of opposing sides. They conceded a staggering 61 goals in League, more than Burnley and Newcastle United, and they are looking to fortify the position even before appointing a successor Arsene Wenger.
Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, and SC Freiburg centre-back are among defenders linked with a move to Arsenal. But now, Zapata has joined the list of targets for the Gunners with reports according to Sportwitness claiming that Arsenal will return with another offer for the 31-year Colombian.
Arsenal were keen on the player some 10-years back but they failed to sign him as confirmed by the player in at that time.
“Juventus, Fiorentina, Milan, Arsenal and Villarreal have requested information about me,” said Zapata in the summer of 2000 as per the Telegraph. “There are many teams that are keen to sign me but an official offer has not been made so far.
“I think if a good offer arrives then Udinese will have to consider it. But the club don’t need to sell me immediately.”
While the fans of Arsenal expect the club to sign defenders, this report leaves little to cheer as Zapata has surpassed the twillight of his career and you wonder what he has to offer to Arsenal.
Well, the transfer window is coming thick and fast, so expect to see this type of report but do not rule out surprises.
