Arsenal will try to bag a £3m Jonny Evans bargain now West Brom have been relegated, according to reports.
The Irishman was linked to the Gunners and Manchester City last summer and again in January but went down, eventually, with Darren Moore’s ship.
Arsene Wenger has left the Emirates but – according to the Mirror – the club remain interested in Evans, especially with Laurent Koscielny out until at least Christmas with an Achilles injury.
Evans caused a stir on the last day of the season by allegedly refusing to play in the club’s final top-flight match via text message.
But the relegated club have made it clear the centre-back had permission to miss the Crystal Palace clash
Albion said Evans was excused after full and amicable conversations with Moore who was perfectly happy with the agreement.
Albion believe suggestions that Evans sent a text saying he would not be showing up for the trip to South London is an unfair slur on the player.
He trained up until Friday but was unavailable for the weekend.
Evans was meant to be on the bench at Selhurst Park but his position was filled by 38-year-old Gareth McAuley, who was an unused substitute.
Supporters turned on former Manchester United after he was revealed to be one of the ‘Cab Four’ who allegedly stole a taxi while on a winter training break in Barcelona.
