Arsenal Ladies, who were impressive throughout the just-concluded season, have added another player to their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
The Gunners were able to secure Austrian international Viktoria Schnaderbeck’s signature from Bayern Munich, per club official website.
The versatile defender — who can also play as a holding midfielder — was influential in Bayern Munich’s race to two Bundesliga titles, one DFB-Pokal and the Bundesliga Cup.
The 27-year-old is no doubt one of the most experienced female players in the world. Her wealth of experience and classic displays will be needed by the Gunners Ladies in the upcoming season if they must win the league title.
Having spent 11 years at the Allianz Arena, the defender told reporters during her unveiling ceremony that she believed it is high time to move for a new adventure in her successful career.
“For me, it was just the right moment,” she told Arsenal.com. “I’m really happy to take this chance and have a new experience in my future. I’m really happy to start.
“I was there for 11 years, so it was a bit of a family for me and I’ve learnt a lot in women’s professional football. I had a good time and also a very successful one. Now I felt like I had to take the next step and I’m really happy to take the next step.
However, she admitted that moving out of Munich is a bit hard for her considering the bond she shares with the club’s hierarchy, players and coaching staff.
According to her, Bayern Munich’s players and coaches are like a family. She further revealed that Arsenal’s rich history, fans, players, and her determination to see how things are being done in the English league, were responsible for her decision to join the North London club.
