A Look at Arsenal’s Short Preseason Schedule

With the departure of long-term manager, Arsene Wenger, the Gunners’ faithful are both excited and nervous to usher in the new era.

The new manager, Unai Emery, is a proven winner. He has won three continental cups with Sevilla as well as the French league and cup with PSG. His short-lived tenure with the French champions was marred with player disagreements and the long-term injury to superstar Neymar JR.

Arsenal fans, however, can take refuge in that Emery’s coaching philosophies are similar to Arsene’s. On paper, it spells a shorter transition period but with the world cup being played, it means the new coach will have a small window to experiment ahead of the task at hand.

The world cup is also the main reason that the North London side is cancelling their annual Emirates cup. In its place, Arsenal will be touring Asia and Europe. They will be one of five English Premier League clubs participating in the Cup this summer. The other four are Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Arsenal will play three games in the competition.

Arsenal will compete for the Asian leg of the cup while clubs like Liverpool will play the United States leg. These games are sure to be action packed so keep a look out for betting tips and predictions.

Arsenal preseason games

Atletico Madrid

The north London club kicks off its preseason by facing their Europa League conquerors Atletico Madrid at Singapore National Stadium. This will be a chance for the club to revenge its shortcomings after they were knocked out over two legs by the Spanish giants. This match will be played on July 26.

Paris Saint-Germain

28th July will see Arsenal face off against the French champions at the same venue before taking their preseason tour back to Europe.

Chelsea

August 4th will see arsenal participate in a London derby away from London. They will be facing off against the blue side of London (Chelsea) on the final game of their International cup adventure. The game will be played in Sweden at the Friends Arena Stadium.

It is interesting to note that those are the only games on Arsenal’s preseason schedule. It seems few considering their direct rivals Manchester United have five matches on their schedule. Arsenal’s fans will be hopeful that the club announces more pre-season matches but realistically speaking, the window between the end of the World Cup and the start of the 2018/19 Premier League season is short.

Arsenal Youngsters

The young and talented arsenal youngsters will be in action on July 14th. The will face Boreham Wood on the eve of the World Cup final.

New season

The English Premier League season is expected to kick off on August 11. The full fixture list will be released later on in the month. The game against Chelsea will be exactly a week before the new campaign gets underway.

As Arsenal fans, we can only hope that the short preseason will be enough to help Emery get well acquainted with the team.
