Arsenal have made contact with Sampdoria regarding the availability of midfielder Lucas Torreira, according to reports in Italy.
The 22-year-old, who has also been linked with moves to Liverpool and Napoli, is being touted with a move this summer after a great season in Serie A.
Torreira’s form for Sampdoria saw him earn a place in Uruguay’s World Cup squad and Arsenal were seemingly keeping a close eye on him.
Unai Emery reportedly made a late attempt to try to hijack the move to take Fabinho from Monaco to Liverpool, but was ultimately unsuccessful and as such, it’s obvious that he’s looking to add another midfielder to his squad.
Whilst Torreira obviously does not possess the same physique as Fabinho, he does play in defensive midfield role, like the Brazilian international and as such, it makes sense that the Gunners would be looking at him.
With the World Cup only a few weeks away, Arsenal might have to act quickly if they want to sign the Uruguayan before he jets off to Russia.
