Arsenal are attempting to lure RB Leipzig right-back Lukas Klostermann to the Emirates as they prepare for the new league season.

The Gunners also look set to announce the arrival of centre-back Sokratis who plays for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

Regarded as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga, Sokratis made his debut at the club in 2013 and is contracted until 2019 at Dortmund.

But, his coming to Arsenal is due to be announced after the 29-year-old’s father revealed he had snubbed English giants Manchester United and decided to play for the Gunners instead.

Although Sokratis’ transfer to the club looks certain at the moment, the North London outfit are still keen on finding quality defence players as many of the denfenders at the Gunners club are ageing – veteran Per Mertesacker inclusive –and they have a defence prodigy in Lukas Klostermann.

Klostermann has been esteemed as one of the brilliant defenders in the Bundesliga with 74 appearances for club RB Leipzig. German outlet Bild claims Arsenal will attempt to bring him to the Emirates along Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The Gunners defence has been unimpressive in recent years and new boss Unai Emery is willing to change all that as he is focused on luring the Lukas, 22, to the Emirates.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are close to completing a summer move for Stephan Lichtsteiner after the veteran defender agreed terms with the North London side.

Klostermann is valued at £10.80m according to transfermarkt.
