Arsenal have reached an agreement with Seria A club Sampdoria over a deal for Uruguayan defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira, according to report.
Unai Emery has been charged with reinforcing the defense of the Gunner and he has identified Torreira as a perfect fit to support his defense.
The Gunners conceded so many goals last season and the lack of a marksman in their midfield also affected their defense.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Jean Michael Seri and Steven Nzonzi, but Torreira is apparently the Gunners top choice for the defensive midfield position and they have secured his capture.
The 22-year-old star has a £21.9m (€25m) release clause in his current contract with Sampdoria. According to Calciomercato via the Daily Star, Arsenal have reached an agreement with the Seria A giants to pay the stipulated fee for his transfer.
The player’s release clause will expire at the end of the month and if the Gunners fail to sign him before then, Sampdoria would certainly ask them to pay more.
Arsenal are not the only club linked with a move for the tough-tackling defensive midfielder, the report claims Borrussia Dortmund and Napoli have signaled their interest in the player. Napoli’s Jorginho has attracted interest to himself and he could end up lacing his boots for Manchester City next term.
