Denis Suarez has confirmed he is leaving Barcelona this summer after his disastrous loan spell at Arsenal.
Over the weekend, it was reported that Celta Vigo were optimistic of landing the 25-year-old due to Valencia having second thoughts about signing the player.
Their problem? His time at Arsenal.
Although Denis Suarez’s time in London involved very little actual football due to an injury that turned out to be much worse than first feared, it has all been enough to give Valencia pause.
Sunday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reported, “In the same way, in the senior management of the club ‘ché’ maintain doubts about the desirability or not of a player who already defrauded the Arsenal during the transfer in the second half of this course.
“Valencia also has first-hand information from his time in London that inhibit its recruitment now.”
“I’m going to leave Barça and Celta is an option,” Suarez told Sport.es.
“I am convinced that one day I will play for Celta, but I do not know when. I have offers from abroad, but I give priority to Spanish football. Playing in Europe is a priority, but there are other options.”
In total, Suarez played just 95 minutes for the Gunners.
Compared to Kim Kallstrom, who arrived with a broken back and went on to become the yardstick for all future loans, the Spaniard performed poorly.
The Swede played 135 minutes to Suarez’s 95 and, of course, scored a penalty against Wigan in the FA Cup semi-final that helped Arsenal reach the final in 2014.
Suarez’s loan fee of €2.5m means that every minute he played cost Arsenal £33,000 when you also factor in his £55kpw wages.
