Arsenal are set to hijack Standard Liege’s move for Inter Milan centre-back Zinho Vanheusden, according to reports in Italy.
Vanheusden spent the 2018/19 season on loan with Standard Liege, and up until Wednesday, all the rumours suggested he was going to sign for the club on a permanent deal this summer.
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport (via talkSPORT), however, Inter now want to halt talks with Liege, as they’ve received better offers from elsewhere. One of those is from Arsenal.
Whilst previous reports claimed Liege were going to buy the Belgian centre-back for €13m (£11.6m), Inter are reportedly hoping for closer to £18m. If Arsenal are willing to pay the extra £6.4m, that could be enough to complete the signing.
Vanheusden made 30 appearances for Liege last season, breaking into the starting lineup on a permanent basis from November onwards. The teenager was also a regular in the Belgium u21s.
One concern with the defender is his injury record. Vanheusden already suffered a cruciate ligament injury in 2017, and he had to deal with another knee injury towards the end of this season. Arsenal already have plenty of injury-prone defenders.
