Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Yacine Brahimi, according to various reports.
The reports originated in Algeria, with Gazette du Fennec claiming Arsenal had agreed to pay Brahimi a €4m signing-on fee. The winger is out of contract with FC Porto, so there would be no negotiation necessary with his club.
In England, Sky Sports have gone with a slightly more tentative report, simply writing that Arsenal are ‘in talks’ to sign the Algeria international.
There’s unlikely to be any announcement until after the Africa Cup of Nations either way, as Brahimi is participating in the tournament until 19th July at the latest.
Brahimi directly contributed to 21 goals in 49 club appearances last season, and during his five years with Porto scored 54 and assisted 43 in 215 games.
He’s also been regularly involved in the goals for Algeria, with 11 goals and nine assists in 48 matches.
On the other hand, at 29 years old, Brahimi’s unlikely to have a long-term future on the wings for Arsenal, so Raul Sanllehi will have to decide if he’s worth the investment in the short term.
If the plan is to bring him in for the immediate future whilst young wingers like Reiss Nelson, Xavier Amaechi and Bukayo Saka are prepared to take his place, then that wouldn’t be the worst idea.
