BBC Confirm Deal Almost Done For Kieran Tierney

Arsenal are falling behind in the race for Kieran Tierney, according to the BBC’s David Ornstein.

In a rather depressing update from the reliable BBC journalist, Ornstein confirmed that Napoli are ‘edging ahead’ in the race to sign Tierney this summer.

Ornstein added that cash continues to be an issue for Arsenal this summer, though a deal is still there to be done.

This update comes in contrast to the latest information from Scotland, with The Sunday Post claiming Arsenal looked to be winning the fight with Napoli, and were planning a £20m bid with £5m add-ons to match Celtic’s valuation.

When it comes to Arsenal transfer news, however, it’s generally best to take Ornstein’s word for it over other sources.

Last week, Celtic boss Neil Lennon confirmed that Arsenal’s first bid for Kieran Tierney was well short of the club’s valuation and they had yet to submit a second.

Despite Lennon’s insistence that Celtic don’t want to sell, he then went on to suggest that Arsenal’s bid had the potential to unsettle Tierney and it had given him a difficult decision to make.

“I’ve had a chat with Kieran as it can be a difficult decision and bit unsettling,” Lennon continued.

“I’ve been there myself so it’s important that we support him regardless of the outcome.”

It would be a real shame if this deal doesn’t end up going through. Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal have shown they’re too injury prone to carry the position alone and there aren’t really any players in the academy pushing for chances on that side.

Arsenal need to sign a new left-back and Tierney fits the bill perfectly.
