Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Leeds United winger Jack Clarke, despite links to Arsenal in January.
Tottenham announced the signing of Clarke on Tuesday morning, revealing that the 18-year-old has signed a contract to 2023 before returning to his former club on loan for the season.
Clarke had been linked with both Spurs and Arsenal in January, with reports that the Gunners were keeping a close watch on the winger’s situation.
It was clear a move wasn’t going to go through at the time, as the player’s agent publicly stated that the teenager was committed to helping his side achieve promotion.
That didn’t happen, which is possibly part of the reason Leeds have pushed for a loan back this season.
Clarke scored two goals and assisted two in 25 appearances for Leeds, so it’s fair to say he’s still very much unproven at senior level.
Tottenham have evidently seen enough to push a deal through though, so we’ll see how he does next season.
In all honesty, Arsenal have plenty of talented youth wingers in the academy already, so this is unlikely to be seen as a major blow.
