Done Deal: Arsenal Target Moraes finally Completes Premier League move

Wesley Moraes completed his move to Aston Villa on Tuesday, becoming the latest in a long list of players to be linked with Arsenal before signing for a lower-profile Premier League club.

Wesley was linked with a move to Arsenal in December, ahead of the January transfer window.

Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad wrote that Arsenal’s interest had been confirmed by Club Brugge inside sources, whilst head coach Ivan Leko spoke out to say the striker could handle playing for a team like Arsenal.

Nothing came of the story, but Wesley got his Premier League move anyway, joining Aston Villa. If you’re currently experiencing déjà vu, that’s because this sort of thing seems to happen all the time nowadays.

In the summer of 2017, most Arsenal fans were under the impression Henry Onyekuru was joining from Anderlecht, only for the forward to end up at Everton. David Ornstein said at the time that the Arsenal rumours appeared to be made up by the player’s agent.

Then there’s Leandro Trossard, who some outlets were claiming was a done deal to join Arsenal earlier this year. He’s since confirmed his move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Miguel Almiron had reportedly agreed to join Arsenal in an £11.5m deal before it turned out the story was a lie and he ended up at Newcastle United instead.

It seems pretty clear agents are starting to realise if they push an Arsenal transfer story in the media, the other Premier League clubs will take notice.

It’s frustrating for Arsenal fans, who end up on an emotional rollercoaster all summer, but it’s evidently working.

There’s not much supporters can do about agents using their club’s name for attention, other than perhaps avoiding getting quite so invested in every single transfer story for the next few months. As if that’s going to happen.
