Arsenal have joined two other clubs in making an enquiry for Southampton right-back Cedric Soares, according to reports.

Portuguese outlet Diario de Noticias report that Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are all keeping an eye on the Southampton right-back, who is free to leave the club this summer.

The trio of clubs have lodged enquiries with Southampton about signing the player, and his exit in the current window is reportedly ‘almost certain’.

Soares spent the second half of last season on loan with Inter Milan, but he didn’t spend a great amount of time on the pitch.

The Portugal international made nine appearances, totalling 526 minutes, though he did manage two assists in that time.

The 27-year-old clearly isn’t set to feature in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans for the new season, whilst Arsenal’s right-back options are limited, so the move makes some sense.

Hector Bellerin won’t be back until a couple of months into the season, whilst Stephan Lichtsteiner has already left the club.

Carl Jenkinson could be set to follow, and his performances last season were poor anyway.

That only leaves Ainsley Maitland-Niles as a realistic option, and the Englishman is still much more of a winger or a central midfielder than a full-back.

Whether Arsenal have the budget for a backup right-back from a Premier League club is another matter.
