Arsenal have bid £25m for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney, hoping to complete the most expensive transfer in Scottish football history, according to reports.
This story actually originated in The Scottish Sun, and whilst we wouldn’t usually believe anything the paper says, this is one of those extremely rare occasions where they seem to be right.
They claimed Arsenal bid £25m for the left-back, with Unai Emery ‘confident’ of finalising the deal. Sources at Celtic report that it’s inevitable the player will move to the Premier League, but the club haven’t yet accepted the offer, continuing to weigh it up.
A number of more respected sources then came in to confirm the news.
Chris McLaughlin of BBC Scotland tweeted Arsenal were back in for the defender with a £25m bid, with the ever-reliable David Ornstein giving the update his seal of approval with a retweet.
Sky Sports Scotland also relayed that their sources understand Arsenal had made a £25m bid. Given £25m was the reported asking price for Tierney, you’d have to imagine Celtic will at least strongly consider this bid.
According to David Ornstein back in June, personal terms aren’t expected to be a problem. As long as Celtic agree to sell, Tierney himself shouldn’t cause any problems.
