Sky Sports: Fenerbahce Want Arsenal Star Man on Loan – Not Welbeck

Fenerbahce are targeting a loan deal for Mesut Özil this summer, according to reports.

Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports revealed on The Transfer Show that Fenerbahce are looking into the possibility of signing the German this summer.

Solhekol admitted Fenerbahce couldn’t afford to buy the midfielder outright, so they’re instead looking at a loan deal where Arsenal pay some of his wages.

At this stage, no talks have taken place directly between the clubs, but intermediaries are in contact.

Realistically, it doesn’t seem particularly likely Arsenal would sanction a loan for the 30-year-old, particularly if they still have to fund part of his £350,000-a-week wages.

Özil may have struggled at times during his first season under Unai Emery, but if he could rediscover his best form he’d be a key part of any success Arsenal have next year.

Sending him on loan for almost no financial benefit takes away that possibility without any real upside.

Sky‘s Dharmesh Sheth argued that Arsenal needed sales – not loans – to fund any summer signings. The reduction in Özil’s wages wouldn’t be enough for them to buy the likes of Wilfried Zaha. This transfer seems farfetched at best.
