Greek heavyweights Panathinaikos and AEK Athens reportedly want to land Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos as the centre-back considers his future at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners’ summer business has been moving in the right direction, considering all the recent speculations and moves.
And, while manager Unai Emery is looking to bolster his backline, there could be a centre-back could soon end up departing.
According to SDNA News, Greek teams Panathinaikos and AEK Athens are targeting Gunners defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Mavropanos became a popular figure at the club not only for his early displays but also for the fact that he was Arsenal’s first signing following the arrival of Sven Mislintat.
The Greek star showed early promise 18 months ago but has since struggled with form and injuries, as a result of which he hasn’t been considered as a reliable option by the Spaniard.
Last campaign, after finally getting ahead of his injury woes, Mavropanos featured for the Gunners at a time when the entire club was out of form.
It was during this period that the club surrendered their front-runners tag to finish outside the Top 4.
Emery is known to be in the transfer market for a central defender but might allow Konstantinos to leave if the right offer comes in.
Arsenal are also on the brink of signing Nicolas Pepe in a club-record deal and could be compelled to sell some of their fringe stars to balance their books.
Because of the existing options available for Emery, Konstantinos might find himself behind several established players.
Additionally, the return to fitness of Calum Chamber and Rob Holding’s presence might be threatening for the Greek.
