Arsenal are reportedly thinking about turning to Juventus star Daniele Rugani to solve a possible centre back conundrum.

The club appear to be going into the new Premier League campaign light on defensive options, with France international Laurent Koscielny attempting to plot a transfer away from the Emirates Stadium and Rob Holding set to miss the early portion of the campaign.

That would leave Unai Emery with Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi, Nacho Monreal, Calum Chambers and Konstantinos Mavropanos as his centre back possibilities.

Therefore, according to Corriere Torino, Arsenal are having a look at Italian Daniele Rugani.

The 24-year-old made 20 matches for Juve last campaign but appears unlikely to be a regular in Turin because of the signing of the Netherlands wonder kid Matthijs de Ligt, who arrived from the Dutch giants Ajax.

Rugani is valued at €40 million although Arsenal are thinking about a loan deal – while Chelsea’s interest emerges to have cooled.

The club are also on the chase for Celtic ace Kieran Tierney, who is a full-back but plays at centre half for national side Scotland.

The Gunners have had two bids rejected for Kieran, but Neil Lennon has admitted the board have drawn up contingency plans in case the north London club moves.

Neil said: “We obviously have contingency plans and have worked out other options if that worst-case scenario were to happen.”

“So yes, having that extra two or three weeks later on in the window may be beneficial but as far as I’m aware there have been no (more bids).”
