Arsenal manager Unai Emery has opened the door for German midfielder Mesut Ozil to make a return to first-team action.
Ozil hasn’t featured for the Gunners this season, but according to his manager, he would be welcomed back if he can prove his fitness.
“With Mesut Ozil it’s the same message to him that I can say to you: We need him – and him firstly to be consistent in training, to be available in each match.” Emery said, with quotes taken from the Mirror.
“We need him because he is a different player in our team. We have different ways to prepare to win, and different qualities with the players, different characteristics from them. We need him to be available and he can help us with his quality.”
The former Germany international had previously been a key player for Arsenal ever since arriving from Real Madrid.
Indeed, during the 2015/16 season Ozil contributed a massive 19 assists in the Premier League, while making over four key passes per game for the Gunners (via WhoScored). Despite an injury hit campaign last term, Ozil still managed six goals and three assists across all competitions but this is a far cry from the form he showed in his first few years in the Premier League.
Ozil’s contract is one of the biggest in the Premier League, with the German earning a reported £350,000 per week at the Emirates.
Ozil is a massive player if he can get things going and if he does come back into the fold then there is every chance he can get back to his best at the club with his ability.
He’s too good a player to simply be sat about and not contributing, and if Emery can indeed push Ozil to get back into the fold then Arsenal will have what will feel like a new player on their hands.
