Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Unai Emery needs to address the defensive problems at the club
Martin Keown says Alexandre Lacazette was Arsenal’s most defensively minded player in the north London derby – highlighting the problems at the club.
The Gunners went two goals behind against bitter rivals Tottenham at the Emirates on the weekend before pulling one back before the break.
Arsenal were much the better team in the second half and equalised through Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang before a Sokratis effort was correctly ruled offside.
Keown liked what he saw from his former team from an attacking point of view, but says there are problems at the back that will need to be addressed.
“There are question marks for Arsenal defensively,” Keown wrote in the Daily Mail.
“We know all about their attacking strength, and Nicolas Pepe’s arrival makes their forward line even better, but there remains uncertainty at the back.
“Sokratis left a big gap for Christian Eriksen’s opener after abandoning his position in a bid to win a header. The most defensively minded player on the pitch was Alexandre Lacazette.
“As for Spurs, I just wonder if they’re suffering a post-Champions League final hangover.”
