Rob Holding has been out of action for nine months, but a first-team return appears to be edging closer.

According to football.london, cited by AFTV Media, the highly-rated defender is set for a return to Unai Emery’s squad following the international break.

The report goes on to add that Holding, who ruptured his cruciate knee ligament against Manchester United last December, didn’t feature against Tottenham last weekend as he wasn’t 100% fit.

The 23-year-old featured in the Gunners’ Under-23 side on several occasions last month, building up his match sharpness ahead of his long-awaited return.

And these Arsenal fans couldn’t hide their excitement after hearing the news regarding the defender.

Holding’s return comes as a welcome boost to Emery, who is still yet to really find a successful central defensive pairing.

Many fans have called for Holding to link up with Callum Chambers at the back recently, with Sokratis and David Luiz both struggling in recent weeks.

It’ll be interesting to see when Holding will make a return to the starting line up, and a combination between the English duo of Holding and Chambers could be an excellent move by Emery if he decides to drop his current senior pair.
