Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted that multiple clubs wanted to sign him this summer before he eventually joined AS Roma on loan.

Mkhitaryan is currently away with Armenia over the international break, and he’s been speaking to the media about his temporary transfer to AS Roma and his future with Arsenal.

The 30-year-old revealed that Roma weren’t the only club interested in his signature this summer, but they were the sole option he found convincing.

“I’m happy that I’ve reached my goal and played in the Premier League,” Mkhitaryan said (via VBET News). “Now I will concentrate on Roma.

“There had been interested clubs, but Roma were the only one with a good offer. They expressed their desire to see me at the club, and I am happy for that.”

As for what happens after this season, Mkhitaryan has suggested there will be talks about the possibility of staying at Roma, but he doesn’t have any idea how things will turn out at this stage.

“Let’s first see what I can do in Roma and at the end of the season I think we can talk if I will have the possibility to stay or to go to something else, I don’t know,” Mkhitaryan told VBET News.

“Now, I cannot say about the future, it’s better to be focused on the next games.”

Mkhitaryan made 59 appearances for Arsenal before leaving on loan this summer, scoring nine goals and assisting a further 13. Although those totals aren’t terrible, they’re a far cry from what he achieved in his final season with Borussia Dortmund.

The Armenian international could never rediscover the form he showed in that season in Germany, and it’s hard to say exactly why. Perhaps he just wasn’t suited to the Premier League in the same way.

This season with Roma should show us if Mkhitaryan is still able to succeed elsewhere.
