Arsenal and Unai Emery have survived a massive injury scare ahead of next weekend’s Premier League clash against Watford.
At one stage club record signing Nicolas Pepe had emerged as a doubt for the trip to Vicarage Road.
This is after it was reported that the winger reported for international duty with the Ivory Coast earlier in the week.
“Nicolas Pepe, injured with his club, came in to declare it late on Wednesday afternoon,” a statement via the Ivory Coast website reads – as per Sport Witness.
But those reports are wide of the mark.
We understands that while Pepe has returned to England, he is not nursing an injury of any kind.
Having not had a full pre-season – because of his involvement at this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament – it was agreed by Ivorian federation and Arsenal that it is best for him to work on his fitness at London Colney.
Furthermore, Pepe joined up the Ivory Coast squad and spent a short period with the team but both parties agreed best for him to sit out games against Benin and Tunisia.
It’s safe to say that Gunners supporters appreciated the gesture.

Nicolas Pepe has withdrawn from the Ivory Coast squad. As I understand it he’ll spend remainder of international break back in London, agreed by Arsenal and Ivorian federation.
No injury, just without a pre-season it’s felt best he works on fitness at Colney.
