Gunners take on Watford this weekend in the Premier League, and they should be using the match to take a closer look at two footballers who may have what it takes to play for the London club. There’s no doubt about it when the London club travel to Vicarage Road this weekend their main task will be to bring home three points.
But that’s not to say that Arsenal can’t make the most of their assignment. Hornets are a tricky side who have shown in glimpses over the past two or three years that they have the credentials to be a top-half Premier League club. That of course, suggests they have some footballers of notable quality, and there are two that Arsenal scouts.
Watford are lucky to have kept hold of Abdoulaye Doucoure who has previously stated that his dream is to play Champions League football. Technically neat and with the physical presence of a bulldozer, the 26-year-old midfielder is the kind of powerhouse that Arsenal have been missing in their team since the days of Patrick Vieira.
While he has a way to go yet, Frenchman has already shown during his three campaigns with the Hornets that he is more than accomplished on English shores. Tie that in with added quality around him and Doucoure could become a real footballer.
Everton also failed with two bids this transfer window, so there are more than one club keen on his services. Abdoulaye joined Watford from Stade Rennais in 2016 with an €11m deal. He has contracted with the English club until 2023, and his release clause is around €30m.
