Arsenal legend Ian Wright hailed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as ‘elite’ after his goal sealed an incredible comeback win over Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s side looked in big trouble when they trudged off a goal down at half-time.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ red card meant Arsenal were forced to play the entire second half with 10 men.

Arsenal did draw level when Nicolas Pepe scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot.

But the home side were on level terms for just 90 seconds before Wesley put Aston Villa back in front.

Substitute Calum Chambers then netted another equaliser before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a stunning free-kick.

The Gabon star was handed the captain’s armband when Emery withdrew Granit Xhaka after 72 minutes.

Arsenal were losing at the time but Aubameyang and Matteo Guendouzi were pivotal in the turnaround.

And Wright, who is a huge fan of both players, tweeted his tribute to Aubameyang after his winner moved Arsenal up to fourth.

He simply wrote: “Elite” accompanied by a crown emoji before tagging the striker ” @Aubameyang7 ”

Guendouzi had earlier thumped a shot against the post, motivating Wright to send him a message of encouragement.

“Yes Matteo!!!!! Driving force in this team!!!!!” the former Gunner tweeted excitedly.

Emery, meanwhile, accepted that his team need to sharpen up defensively.
