Unai Emery opened up on the performance of Gabriel Martinelli after his impressive display for the Gunners last night in the Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is pleased with Gabriel Martinelli’s  performance against Nottingham Forest as he followed all of his instructions from pre-season.

Martinelli joined the Gunners in the summer from Ituano and was impressive in his first start in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Nottingham at the Emirates.

The Brazilian orchestrated a 5-0 thrashing as he scored a brace and Emery is not at all surprised with his glowing performance.

The Spanish gaffer revealed the 18-year-old worked hard and showed a lot of spirit during pre-season.

The young forward won over the manager who told him to have patience and that his time will come.

Martinelli heeded the instructions as he carried on the hard work and took full advantage of his first opportunity.

Emery said: “Martinelli is a very young player.

“But he came here and we were waiting and watching him, how he could improve with us.

“He played very well in pre-season, he was working each training with a big spirit and a big performance.

“I spoke with him [and told him to] have some patience for his opportunity, to do like he was doing in training and pre-season.

“Tonight he did that.

“He deserved it because he is very humble, he fights, he’s hungry to have that opportunity to help us.

“Really, really it was perfect, his work tonight.”

Arsenal’s next Premier League match will take place on Monday at Old Trafford against Manchester United (8pm).
