Manchester United have been dealt a major blow with the news that Marcus Rashford will miss Monday night’s game against Arsenal.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that the striker will be forced to miss out as he continues to struggle with a groin injury.
With Anthony Martial already on the sidelines, this could leave the Red Devils in serious trouble ahead of the meeting with Unai Emery’s side – but what does it mean for Arsenal?
The injuries to both Rashford and Martial leaves Solskjaer’s side without a senior striker.
Young Mason Greenwood could be given the opportunity to start the game, or Solskjaer may have to rejig his attacking options, as he did against West Ham.
Jesse Lingard was forced to play as a makeshift striker against West Ham after Rashford’s injury and if the same were to happen against Manchester United, it would seriously nullify the host’s attacking threat.
The pace of Rashford could have been a huge danger to Arsenal’s backline, but they now have the opportunity to take control of the game from a defensive point of view as they chase only their second clean sheet of the season.
Greenwood is very highly rated at United and it would be great for him to get such an opportunity, but at the same time it will be a big ask to make an impact against the Gunners in what is already a very high-pressured game.
United will be hoping that Martial recovers in time for the game, but the Mail’s report doesn’t appear to suggest that is likely.
