Liverpool could be kicked out of cup before Arsenal clash – should Gunners push to get Reds punished?

Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Arsenal could be handed a boost in their Carabao Cup campaign, with Liverpool being investigated for fielding a supposedly ineligible player.

James Pearce of The Athletic reports that Liverpool could be punished if they are found guilty of illegally fielding the player and could even be chucked out of the competition entirely.

Reports suggest that Pedro Chirivella is the player in question, with the EFL investigating whether or not the player had the correct international clearance after returning from a loan deal at Extremadura.

However, there is a precedent for punishments involving fielding illegible players in the League Cup, with Sunderland being fined a few years ago for the same crime.

This could be a massive boost for Arsenal if Liverpool are kicked out of the competition.

The Gunners would surely be given a free bye in the competition, meaning they don’t have to risk their players in a tough game against the Reds.

Arsenal and Liverpool would surely not be putting out full strength teams, but it would be a huge win for Arsenal if they were able to progress to the next round without having to play the game.

Success in the EFL cup is surely not a priority, but the Gunners surely wouldn’t say no to clinching a trophy this season.
