Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira turned down the chance to join Everton this summer because he wanted to join Arsenal.
That’s according to CalcioMercato, who claim the midfielder was waiting for a call from the Gunners that, sadly for him, never arrived.
Khedira was expected to leave Juventus, with the arrival of Maurizio Sarri, plus the signings of Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey, likely to push him out of the picture.
Ultimately there was no exit, though, with the German instead staying at the Serie A club and forcing himself into his new manager’s plans.
However, there was no lack of offers, with CalcioMercato reporting that the 32-year-old ‘evaluated’ offers from both Everton and Fenerbahce but instead elected to stay at Juventus.
That’s because he was hoping for a call from Arsenal, with the insinuation being he would have moved had there been an offer.
That never happened as the Gunners added elsewhere, so Khedira elected to turn down the offer from Everton and fight it out at Juve instead.
It’s a battle he’s seemingly won, with him starting four of their first five games in Serie A and their 2-2 draw with Atlético Madrid in the Champions League so far this season.
