Arsenal are facing a transfer battle with Borussia Dortmund over Celtic wonderkid Karamoko Dembele, according to reports from Germany.
Dembele , 16, made his debut for Celtic at the end of last season having been handed his first pro contract until 2021 – but he has been linked to Arsenal and a host of other top clubs across Europe.
The London-born teenager shot to fame when he broke into Celtic’s under-20 team aged just 13, with videos of his performances going viral.
Dembele – who was almost snapped up by Barcelona in 2015 – has yet to play for Celtic this season, although it is thought the Scottish champions are keen to keep him and will resist any attempts to lure him away.
German publication Bild report that Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign the talented winger, with Arsenal, Juventus and Paris-Saint Germain also interested.
Dortmund have a track record of identifying talented young players and signing them up before their value soars.
That was the case with Jadon Sancho, with the Bundesliga club now valuing the 19-year-old England ace at £100million after snapping him up from Manchester City two years ago.
Dembele has featured for both Scotland’s U16 side and England’s U17s, and will no doubt have a decision to make on his international future in the near future.
Arsenal will hope to convince him to move back to his native London – and could point to Gabriel Martinelli’s impact so far this season as proof they are willing to put their trust in young players.
Barcelona turned down the chance to sign Dembele four years ago because they feared it would land them in hot water with FIFA.
The Spanish club were ready to make their move after convincing the player his future lay away from Scotland.
But they pulled the plug amid fears FIFA would hammer them for signing an under-age player.
