Russian agent Dmitry Cheltsov claims he offered Alexandre Lacazette to Zenit in the summer and says the striker has a £61 million release clause in his contract with Arsenal.
Lacazette was signed by Arsenal from Lyon for a then club-record fee of £46.5m in 2017. The 28-year-old is in his third season at Arsenal but is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.
Cheltsov claims he put forward the signing of Lacazette to Zenit before the Russian club ended up landing Malcom from Barcelona for an initial £36m fee.
‘I offered Alexandre Lacazette to Zenit,’ Cheltsov told Sport Business Gazeta.
‘Their sporting director Javier Ribalta said to me: ‘Are you crazy? His release clause is €68m [£61m].’
‘I told him you can negotiate with Arsenal. I am sure they will be ready to accept something between €50m and €55m [£45m – £49.5m]. ‘His salary would be €7-8m [£6.3m – £7.2m] after tax.’
