Kieran Tierney has received lots of praise following his European debut for Arsenal on Thursday.
Arsenal hero Martin Keown has praised Unai Emery for completing a deal to sign left-back Kieran Tierney.
Tierney was a target throughout the summer window for Arsenal and finally put pen to paper on the Premier League’s transfer deadline day.
The £25million arrival from Celtic is now back fit following a double hernia operation.
Tierney impressed during his first 90 minutes for the Gunners in the 4-0 Europa League win over Standard Liege on Thursday.
And Keown is impressed with what he has seen so far of the 22-year-old.
“Well there’s absolutely no doubt about that [Tierney will be starting regularly soon],” Keown said on BT Sport.
“I was always told as a young player when you come in you have to make your mark.
“There’s no time to lose and he made really good use of that opportunity [against Standard]. Bursting down that left-hand side, look how high up the pitch he is.
“He’s saying ‘give it to me and I’ll deliver’ and he puts that ball in the box time and time again.
“Really positive in everything he does, he wants to go at people.
“The quality is there, he’s oozing quality and [Sead] Kolasinac is under pressure, there’s no doubt about it.
“He kept on doing it in the second half, he keeps wanting to get forward, looked a little bit tired late on.
“I was really pleased for him, he looks as if he’s a wonderful signing, £25m, and he can be really happy with his night’s work.”
Former England striker Michael Owen has no doubt Tierney will turn out to be a top buy for Arsenal.
“Oh no he’s a proper player, I’ve watched him for a long time, I know him well,” Owen said.
“He’s a very, very good signing. Arsenal aren’t paying that much money and not starting him.
“He’s obviously had a hernia problem but he’s coming back now and I’m sure he’s going to start the next few games.”
