Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi has told manager Unai Emery that he has to secure UEFA Champions League football for the club for next season.
As reported in the Mirror, Sanllehi is expecting the north London club to be back amongst Europe’s elite next season.
When speaking to a Fans Forum, Sanllehi said:
” We said to Unai that we just missed out on qualifying for the Champions League last year.
But this year, with a stronger squad, we expect you to do that.”
Is it too much to ask?
Absolutely not. The Gunners’ board backed Emery in the summer transfer window and splashed the cash on Nicolas Pepe to help the manager achieve the Champions League goal.
With the further additions of David Luiz, Kieran Tierney and Dani Ceballos, Arsenal now has a more balanced squad and should be qualifying comfortably for next year’s tournament.
Also, the level of competition from the other ‘top six’ sides isn’t the best at the moment, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur really struggling, so Emery, on paper, should be able to fulfil Sanllehi’s orders.
