The defender has impressed for Villarreal this season, helping them to ninth in the La Liga table.

Arsenal have reportedly expressed interest in securing the signature of the 22-year-old ahead of the summer.

Torres supposedly has a release clause of in between £44million and £65m – but Arsenal want to strike a deal for less.

They are not, though, the only club interested in securing the signature of the young Spaniard.

Chelsea are also keen with Frank Lampard’s side hoping to strengthen their defence once their transfer ban comes to an end.

And former Gunners midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong believes that his old side should be looking specifically at Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
