Bukayo Saka is set to be rewarded for his promising start to his breakthrough season with a new contract.
The teenager made his debut in the Europa League last year but has been promoted to this first team squad this term following his displays during the pre-season tour of America.
Saka scored his first senior goal for the club during last month’s 3-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt and has started Arsenal’s last three Premier League games, starring in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford having usurped Reiss Nelson in Unai Emery’s pecking order.
The England Under-19 international is now set to commit his long-term future to the club by signing a new long-term deal and follow Joe Willock who also recently agreed fresh terms having established himself as a first team regular.
‘I think he’s working and improving, being mature and also playing matches in front of each player and each team as tonight against Manchester United,’ said Emery after the 1-1 draw against Man Utd.
‘But his work is natural and he is improving. He is helping us now as an important player. ‘We are going to work with him with him with calm, with patience, but if he deserves to take minutes and to take confidence for helping us with his performance, that is fantastic for us.’
Despite his rapid progress, according to the Daily Mirror, Saka still has not been accepted into Arsenal’s first team dressing room at the club’s Colney training base.
The complex is split into first team and academy wings and the youngsters must be granted permission by the seniors to access their area.
Given the 18-year-old is said to have made an impression as bright and eager to learn, it surely won’t be long before he is allowed to change alongside Arsenal’s senior pros.
