West Bromwich Albion want to sign Chris Willock on a permanent deal, after taking him on loan for the season.

BirminghamLive report that West Brom are keen on keeping Joe Willock’s brother Chris beyond the end of the 2019/20 campaign, as he’s impressed with the club so far.

Still just 21 years old, Chris left Arsenal as a teenager in 2017 to join Benfica. After a couple of years with their B team, scoring 14 goals and assisting nine more, they sent him on loan to the Championship and West Brom.

The winger is yet to appear for Slaven Bilic’s senior side, but he’s scored two goals and assisted two in four u23 appearances, and he’s clearly impressing in training, so it’s just a matter of time now.

When Chris joined West Brom in the summer, reports suggested both clubs retained the right to review the loan deal in January. It’s possible the Baggies will push to make the deal permanent at that stage, though they’ll want to get him a run in their team first.

That does mean Benfica also likely have the option to recall the player though, so it really depends on how well he does and how much the Portuguese side actually want him back at that stage.
