AC Milan tried to sign Dani Ceballos over the summer, and they managed to find an agreement with the player, but not his club.
Fabrizio Romano writes that Milan made a serious move for Ceballos in the last transfer window. After impressing in the u21 European Championships, Ceballos was open to the move, excited by the possibility of playing in Serie A.
The transfer ended up falling down over Milan’s inability to find an agreement with Real Madrid. Whilst Arsenal were offering a straight loan with no option-to-buy, that was the only formula Milan weren’t willing to accept.
Milan wanted a permanent transfer or a loan with an option, but Real weren’t interested in either offer.
It’s becoming rather strange how Ivan Gazidis’ new club seem to be interested in signing so many players either linked with Arsenal, playing for Arsenal or previously of Arsenal.
This year, Milan have been linked with Lucas Torreira, Shkodran Mustafi, Dani Ceballos, Ismael Bennacer (they ended up signing him), Krystian Bielik, Sam Greenwood, Mesut Özil and Mohamed Elneny.
Either the media are capitalising on the Gazidis connection to fabricate stories or the former Arsenal CEO is really trying to take advantage of his old position in his new one.
