Arsenal manager Unai Emery has blamed Nicolas Pepe’s miss for his side’s defeat against Sheffield United.
Lys Mousset’s goal was enough to hand the Blades the three points on Monday night.
Prior to the opener, £72m man Pepe spurned a glorious chance to give the visitors the lead, totally missing the ball from six yards out.
And Emery believes that miss cost his side. As quoted on BT Sport, Emery said:
There were chances for us.
A very clear one from Pepe, that was key I think because this team have conceded the least goals in the Premier League with Liverpool, seven goals only.
Was Emery right to single out Pepe’s miss?
Name-dropping Pepe maybe wasn’t the best idea from Emery. Other Arsenal players also missed some decent chances.
However, it was a very good chance and if Pepe converted, then Arsenal would have most likely gone on to win the game comfortably.
The new signing has struggled to impress and is very low on confidence, as seen by the miss where he never attacked the ball with conviction. Hearing your manager say that your miss was the key moment also won’t leave Pepe feeling good about himself.
