Arsenal and Tottenham were both interested in signing Dani Olmo this summer but instead turned their attention to other targets.
That’s according to journalist Alberto Pereiro, who revealed the information when discussing the Spanish midfielder’s situation at Dinamo Zagreb with radio station Onda Cero.
Olmo joined the Croatian club from Barcelona in 2014 and has gone on to become a star at the club, with 32 goals and 26 assists in 114 games for the club.
That, coupled with his star performances for Spain’s youth sides, has earned him plenty of admirers, with Arsenal and Tottenham both named as suitors during the summer transfer window.
No club ended up signing the 21-year-old, though he continues to be linked with a move to a major European side at some point.
Now, it transpires he could have ended up at either Arsenal or Tottenham this summer, only for both clubs to end up signing other players ahead of him first.
“Dinamo Zagreb were asking for €40m,” Pereiro told the radio station.
“Arsenal were interested, but then they got the opportunity to get Dani Ceballos on loan. They took that option.
“Tottenham were also interested, but then Giovani Lo Celso appeared (became available). He (Olmo) was never the first option for anyone in a big club.”
