Arsenal are having somewhat of a miserable season, and Unai Emery desperately needs to freshen things up at the Emirates.
The Gunners have looked shaky at the back all year, failing to keep a single clean sheet in the Premier League.
Their powerful forwards in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have got them out of jail so far.
But which signings do Arsenal need to make to give themselves the best chance of a top four finish?
- Dayot Upamecano
Arsenal have been heavily linked with RB Leipzig’s centre-back Upamecano for months.
The 21-year-old French youth international is a shoe-in for the Bundesliga giants, and is expected to be a world-beater in the coming years.
He won’t come cheap though – with Leipzig reportedly quoting them an £87m fee earlier this month.
- Thiago Maia
Arsenal have needed a reliable defensive-midfielder for a while, especially following Granit Xhaka’s exploits on Sunday.
Lille’s Thiago Maia appears to be the perfect candidate, and could even stake a claim for the captaincy after a couple of years at the Emirates.
The Brazilian has struggled with injuries this season, but was a standout performer in Ligue 1 last term.
- Jan Vertonghen
A reliable centre-back should be at the top of Emery’s transfer targets.
That is exactly what he would be getting in Tottenham and Belgium’s Jan Vertonghen, who would be available on a free next summer or at a cut-price in January.
However, Spurs are unlikely to want to sell to their bitter rivals – especially when they could be battling them for a top four spot – so this could be one to watch next summer.
Equally, Tottenham team-mate Toby Alderwiereld – who has been linked to Manchester United in the past – is another option.
- Orkun Kokcu
18-year-old playmaker Orkun Kokcu is unlikely to be able to turn things around at Arsenal this season, but Arsenal clearly see something in the Feyenoord youngster to keep tabs on him .
The Turkish youth international would be the perfect replacement for Mesut Ozil, whose chances of resurrecting his Arsenal career appear to be fading daily.
Dani Ceballos is currently holding down the fort as the Gunners’ No. 10 – but they will need a long-term option if he returns to Real Madrid.
- Wilfried Zaha
This signing was the one Arsenal fans were crying out for over the summer.
But they may have dodged a bullet with Crystal Palace forward yet to find any kind of form so far this season.
Arsenal’s woes certainly don’t stem from their lack of goal threat – this one should be put on the back burner for now.
