Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has urged supporters to unite behind manager Unai Emery during this testing period for the club.

The Spaniard is under mounting pressure following a poor run of results over the last two months.

Arsenal have only won one of their last seven games and have repeatedly showcased the defensive ineptitude that plagued them during the final years of Arsene Wenger’s reign.

With the north Londoners lying in sixth place in the table and eight points off the top four, the Emirates faithful have begun to turn on Emery.

Former Gunners skipper Vieira understands the fans’ frustrations but believes it’s imperative they back the Spaniard during this testing period for the club.

“Its true Arsenal are going through a tough spell,” said the Frenchman. “But I haven’t watched all their matches, so I can’t talk about their game.

“They have a coach who is qualified and who works well. When a club is having a difficult time, it’s important to be united.”

Vieira is confident the former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain manager can turn things around but insists he needs to be given time to do so.

He added: “I think he has enough experience to get them through this difficult spell.

“We have to get behind him and give him time to change things. ‘I am not sure a change of manager will fix the problems.”

A 2-0 loss at the hands of Leicester City last Saturday strengthen calls for the Arsenal brass to relieve Emery of his duties.

The 47-year-old will look to get his troops back to winning ways a week on Saturday when relegation battlers Southampton travel to the Emirates.
