Even with a change of manager at the Emirates, Lucas Torreira cannot seem to get a start at Arsenal these days.
Since the beginning of the season, there have been a handful of stories claiming the Uruguayan midfielder is unhappy with his situation in London, which led to a series of rumours sending him back to Italy, where Milan were reportedly ready to welcome him.
That died down a little bit in recent weeks, but Corriere dello Sport now believe another Serie A side are interested in the 23-year-old’s services: Napoli.
The underachieving Italian giants are looking to revamp their squad over the next year or so, with Aurelio de Laurentiis unhappy at the current situation.
One of the areas they want to strengthen is their midfield with someone who can control the game, which is where Torreira comes in.
Corriere explain that because he isn’t having the most ‘wonderful season’, it would be ‘easier’ for them to ‘try and tempt him’ to move to Naples.
This is the plan for January, and there’s a belief he might be cheaper to get than Stanislav Lobotka, currently at Celta Vigo.
Well, maybe not cheaper, but as they said above, it might be easier to convince the player and the club to get a deal done than for the Slovakian.
Certainly one to keep an eye on as we near the January window, and if Torreira continues to sit on the bench under Freddie Ljungberg, it might start growing.
