Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Carlo Ancelotti and could even make an announcement as early as this afternoon in what seems like a bit of a mad update.
Before the second half against West Ham, I was all for getting someone like Carlo Ancelotti. He isn’t a manager who is going to build but he will come in and make an immediate impact and that’s what Arsenal were very clearly needing.
Something seemed to change, for a while at least, against West Ham in the second half, though, and as the players shrugged off a few Emery cobwebs, the need for a firefighter seems slightly less urgent.
Still, what do I know?
According to TMW, Arsenal have moved swiftly to open talks with Ancelotti who was only sacked five minutes ago by Napoli, despite guiding them to the Champions League knock-out stages just hours before.
They aren’t happy with their league form, it seems, with Napoli currently 7th but, appealingly, have a positive goal difference.
Remember what that felt like?
Anyway, Arsenal have said they wanted to get the right man for the job but, perhaps having accepted what real trouble we are in, they have realised the prudence of getting someone in who can steady us.
He may not be the most exciting option out there but Carlo Ancelotti is, perhaps, the safest and wisest at present.
The report also seems to claim it would only be a contract until 2021.
