Pep Guardiola has confirmed Mikel Arteta will still be a part of Manchester City ’s coaching staff when they face Oxford United in their Carabao Cup quarter final clash.
Arteta is reportedly in talks to take the reins at former club Arsenal , who are looking for a new manager after parting ways with Unai Emery last month.
However, with Emery only lasting around 18 months in the hotseat, club chiefs are now willing to take a punt on Arteta.
Arsenal’s chief executive Vinai Venkatesham was recently pictured leaving the Spaniard’s house , indicating the appointment could be imminent.
However, Guardiola has now suggested the Gunners will have to be patient, after admitting there was no update on the future of his No. 2 at a press conference ahead of City’s trip to the Kassam Stadium.
“He’s an incredible person,” Guardiola added. “A good manager, good work ethic that’s why he’s with us. He is talking with Arsenal so I don’t know what’s going to happen.
“Now it happens with Mikel that teams want him. He knows exactly what we would like but at the end the decision is personal.”
When asked about the late night meeting with Venkatesham, Guardiola said Arteta had let him know ahead of time.
“He was incredibly honest and transparent with me,” he said. “The club is always live. People here today, and then maybe tomorrow are not here.
“Now he is part of our group and staff and stays here. When we have any new news I will know it and you will know it. He trained today and that’s all.”
