London club have made enquiries about signing Franck Kessie this month, according to reports in Italy. Ivory Coast international has long been linked with a switch to the Premier League and was a transfer target of former Gunners manager Arsene Wenger. Franck Kessie became a crucial figure for the Rossoneri over the years.

Current boss Mikel Arteta is keen to bring in reinforcements in winter, but Gunners are targeting loan deals rather than any permanent signings. London club broke their transfer record to sign Nicolas Pepe last summer, and the expenditure in the last window means Arsenal’s budget is tight this month.

However, Franck could be snapped in a bargain £21m deal. Kessie has struggled for consistency at Rossoneri but has stood out this campaign despite the Serie A club languishing in tenth place in the table. Gunners have registered their interest in the 23-year-old midfielder but will face competition from West Ham United.

Like Mikel Arteta, David Moyes is desperate to bolster his squad, and the Ivorian midfielder could represent a great deal considering his price tag. Mikel Arteta has refused to be drawn into transfer speculation but did reveal he was not expecting a busy month. ‘At the moment nothing is coming up,’ he said.

‘The club is working on a few things, but you know how difficult this window is and I’m not expecting many things.’ Arsenal heavily linked with Napoli centre-forward Dries Mertens, Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar, Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, Bayern defender Jerome Boateng and RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.
