Arsenal Star Hits Out at Horrible Refereeing Standards in League

Beth Mead has retweeted a message from Reading women’s captain Natasha Harding that hits out at the standard of refereeing in the English women’s game.

The standard and consistency of officiating in the women’s game is even worse than we see in the men’s. Many seem afraid to punish dangerous tackles appropriately as we saw last season when an Arsenal player had her leg broken at Chelsea.

Arsenal lost to Manchester City at the weekend which now leaves them three points behind the Citizens and two behind Chelsea, who also have a game in hand.

With just eight games remaining and Chelsea’s game in hand not scheduled until the last week of the season, this one could go right to the wire. Arsenal, however, have given themselves a mountain to overcome and the title is no longer in their hands following the 2-1 defeat on Sunday.

“Maybe we lacked a bit of patience in the final third,” Joe Montemurro said after the game. “We got there and we had opportunities, but the important thing is finishing those moves off and we didn’t do that today.

“We knew it was an emotional event with Nick Cushing’s last game here, but we had enough of the ball and in the final third we could have done a little bit better.”
