Arsenal are monitoring developments with Adam Lallana ahead of a likely exit this summer on a free transfer, according to reports.
The Telegraph name Arsenal alongside Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Leicester City in the race for Lallana signature this summer. The Liverpool man is likely to leave, with no sign of an extension to his current deal – expiring in 2020.
For now, the 31-year-old is trying to focus on Liverpool’s title challenge, along with any other potential trophy runs. Jurgen Klopp’s side remain in the Champions League and the FA Cup, despite the manager’s attempt to drop the latter competition.
As a result, Lallana hasn’t held any formal discussions over an exit, even though he’s free to open negotiations with overseas clubs at this stage.
Lallana is up to 19 appearances this season, but that’s a misleading figure. Only seven of the 19 were starts – and only three of those in the league. As Liverpool race to the title, Lallana is only playing a bit-part role.
That’s something you can deal with when it’s your first title. At 31, you probably just want to get the trophy under your belt, even from limited minutes. After that, however, Lallana will probably want to play a bit more often.
The biggest concern signing the midfielder is obviously his injury record. His appearance total this campaign is actually more than in any other since 2016/17.
Lallana seems to be picking up little knocks constantly. That’s how he fell down the Liverpool pecking order in the first place. At his age, you wonder if that’s likely to improve.
