Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery on an arm fracture this week, which could affect his participation in the North London derby.
Spurs announced Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery on his right arm this week. The winger has been stepping up in Harry Kane’s absence recently, scoring six goals in his last five games. Now they claim he’ll miss ‘a number of weeks’ with the injury.
Jose Mourinho is even more pessimistic. He told the media he’d write the statement with ‘different energy’, and gave a negative response to questions about whether he expects Son to play again this season.
“I don’t,” Mourinho said. “If he plays one or two games it’s because [Simon, Tottenham’s head of communications] is very optimistic and I hope he’s right. But in my mind, no, I’m not thinking about that.”
Mourinho also previously suggested Harry Kane could miss the rest of the season as well. The head coach only claimed to expect the striker back for the final two games of the campaign.
This is all relevant to Arsenal because the Gunners have their first trip to Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium on April 25th. If Kane and Son both return on Mourinho’s schedule, they’ll both miss that match.
On the other hand, if Son really is only out for a few weeks, he’ll make it back in time.
Based on the history of this fixture, I’d expect both players to be back ahead of schedule just in time to dive for penalties against Arsenal.
