Arsene Wenger’s plans to overhaul the offside rule, and VAR along with it, will not be in place for the Euros this summer according to the chief of the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

‘‘It is not up for approval to come into the laws of the game,” Lukas Brud told ESPN as reported in Thursday’s Daily Mail. “I’m not judging the proposal, it might be a good one, but this is not up for approval or for a vote as a concrete proposal to go into the laws of the game.

“It’s impossible. We welcome his ideas, but we haven’t discussed it yet and we simply cannot approve anything that has not been discussed on any level so far. It is not up for approval to come into the laws of the game.”

Wenger, of course, was not expecting any changes to be made immediately as he knows these things take time because he’s not an idiot.

“I am well aware that any rules changes are subject to a standard approval process,” Wenger responded.

IFAB’s meeting will be chaired by the Irish FA President, David Martin, and Arsene Wenger will be in attendance in his new role as saviour of football.
